The Pennsylvania Department of Treasury has announced the first round of Money Match checks are headed out to state residents.
This is part of an effort to get some of their unclaimed property off their hands. Money Match is a new program that will allow the Treasury to return certain property to the rightful owners automatically. The system will authorize the treasury to return single-owner properties up to $500 after a thorough identification and verification process. In this first round, 7,380 checks totaling over $1.7 million will be sent out.
Money Match does not apply to claims for properties over $500 or those that have multiple owners or other complexities. Those people will still need to file a claim and provide any required documentation. At least 14 other states have successfully implemented similar programs.
