The Penguins skated at Philadelphia without Sidney Crosby, Bryan Rust, and Evgeni Malkin and lost, 3-2 in their final game before the 4 Nations Face-Off.
Paul Steigerwald has the story.
Crosby missed his second straight game with an upper body injury. Rust was placed on injured reserve with a lower body injury suffered Friday against the Rangers in New York. Malkin has missed the last six games with an undisclosed injury.
The Penguins recalled rookie forward Vasily Ponamarev from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton before the game. With the 4 Nations Face-Off starting next week and almost two weeks off, they shipped Ponamarev, winger Emil Bemstrom, and goaltender Joel Blomqvist back to the minors after the game so they can get playing time there.
