Herman Donald Luther, 92, of New Florence, PA passed away on Tuesday, January 21, 2025, in Indiana Regional Medical Center, Indiana, PA.
The son of John E. and Edna J. (Kough) Luther, he was born on September 12, 1932, in Robinson, PA on a farm where he was raised and lived his entire life.
Herman was a graduate of Armagh High School, Class of 1950.
He was drafted into the US Army in 1954 serving with the 44th Tank Battalion attached to the 82nd Airborne. That same year, he married the love of his life, Janet (Shaffer) Luther.
Herman worked for PennDOT for 33 years in the Indiana PA Traffic Unit until his retirement in 1991.
He was a member of Grace Church, Indiana, American Legion #0128, Bolivar and serving in many Military Services honoring other deceased Veterans, member and Past Exalted Ruler of BPOE #406, Blairsville, and member and Past Worshipful Master of the Acacia Lodge # 355 F&AM, Blairsville.
Herman and his late wife loved to square dance, camp, spend their winter months in Florida with their many friends, in addition to belonging to a local Antique Car Club where he and Janet participated and judged many shows. His life was a life well lived, well loved, and someone that will be deeply missed.
Surviving is his son-in-law, Ricky Miller of Homer City, two grandchildren, Aaron Miller, and Nadine Miller; five great grandchildren; and his brother, Eddie Luther (Rene) of Johnstown
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 65 years, Janet (Shaffer) Luther on December 28, 2019, his daughter, Janice Miller in 2020, and his brother, William.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, January 25, 2025, from 2 to 4 PM and 6 until the time of the funeral service at 7:30 PM at the Shoemaker Funeral Home, Inc., 49 N. Walnut St., Blairsville, PA with Pastor Kathy Mihoerck officiating.
Interment will be in the Armagh Cemetery, Armagh, PA.
Military services will be conducted at the funeral home by the Blairsville Military Honor Guard.
Acacia Lodge #355 will hold masonic services in the funeral home on Saturday, January 25th at 7 PM.
