In a letter to Purchase Line School District parents, Superintendent Patricia Berezansky says the school security guard who accidentally fired his gun on Friday will no longer work in the district. The guard is employed by a private company contracted to provide security at Purchase Line.
The incident happened at 9:05 AM in the faculty room of the elementary school. A single round hit a refrigerator. No one was injured and no students were present. The guard was immediately removed from the building and state police were dispatched to the scene.
Berezansky wrote that the situation was “both serious and unacceptable” and that the district has a “zero-tolerance policy” for any actions which compromise safety. Classes went on as scheduled on Friday at Purchase Line.
