IUP opens its PSAC schedule against Shippensburg today at the KCAC. The women tip off at 3 o’clock with the men to follow at 5. Tomorrow, both teams are back on the court against Lock Haven.
Coach Craig Carey’s 3-0 women’s team tangles with 1-2 Shippensburg. IUP has won the last ten times they’ve played the Raiders, going back to 2011.
Carey has put together an intriguing combination of newcomers and returning players, and he’s expecting big things in the PSAC.
Joe Lombardi’s young men’s team opened the season with two narrow road losses to Glenville State and Charleston, followed up by two close road wins over Tiffin and Ashland. For their first home game, they meet a 1-3 Shippensburg team coached by former IUP assistant Chris Fite. The Crimson Hawks and Raiders have had quite a few battles in recent years, with IUP holding a 6-4 advantage over the last ten games, including the last two times they’ve played.
Lombardi liked how his inexperienced team bounced back from two opening losses with two wins last weekend.
Jack Benedict has the call of the doubleheader on 92.5 FM U92 starting at 2:45.
