Sullivan says the Penguins were clearly the better team, but only for the first 40 minutes.
The Penguins outshot the Islanders, 35-26. Alex Nedeljkovic made 23 saves in the game for the Pens.
The Islanders’ Bo Horvat scored the game-winning goal in the shootout. It was the only goal scored by either team. Ndeljkovic stopped Oliver Wahlstrom and Kyle Palmieri. Islanders goalie Ilya Sorokin stopped the Pens’ Rickard Rakell, Sidney Crosby and Kris Letang.
