Steelers coach Mike Tomlin will have an extra day of preparation for next Monday night’s game against the New York Giants, and then the team gets some time off for their bye week. Tomlin is expected to hold his weekly media event today, breaking down Sunday’s win over the Jets and looking ahead to the Giants.
After dealing with depth issues at outside linebacker, Tomlin is now looking for help in the secondary. Starting cornerback Donte Jackson reinjured his shoulder on Sunday and NFL Network’s Ian Rappaport reports that the Steelers will sign cornerback C.J. Henderson from their practice squad to the active roster. Henderson was the Jaguars top draft pick in 2020 but injuries limited him and he was traded to the Panthers in ’21. He was cut by the Texans at the end of training camp this year and signed with the Steelers practice squad.
Cornerback Corey Trice is eligible to return from injured reserve this week and linebacker Nick Herbig may be ready to play on Monday night.
The Baltimore Ravens beat Tampa Bay last night, 41-31 as Lamar Jackson threw five touchdown passes and Derrick Henry ran for 169 yards. The Ravens and Steelers are tied atop the AFC North at 5-2, although the Ravens technically are in first place because they have played and won a division game. The Steelers have not played any division games yet.
In the other Monday night Football game, the Cardinals beat the Chargers 17-15 on a 32-yard field goal by Chad Ryland as time expired.
