IUP Homecoming weekend is here, and with people coming to the community to celebrate, police departments across the area are preparing for a busy weekend.
The homecoming celebration is close to the one-year anniversary of the shooting at Chevy Chase Community Center that left one person dead and eight others wounded. When asked if local police have changed how things are done in the wake of that shooting, Indiana Borough Police Chief Justin Schawl said “Yes and no”.
Indiana Borough Police are being joined by IUP Police, the county sheriff’s office and state police in enforcement efforts over the weekend, and state police are bringing in extra resources including the mounted and k-9 units. Indiana County District Attorney Robert Manzi’s office will also be ready for any activity, and he encourages people to report any suspicious activity.
I-ACT is expected to release incident reports Saturday and Sunday mornings as part of their normal detail for Homecoming weekend.
