Two people charged in separate cases of theft entered guilty pleas Thursday morning in Indiana County Court.
56-year-old Lara Brown of Mount Pleasant pled guilty to felony charges of theft by unlawful taking, receiving stolen property, theft by deception, and theft by failure to make required deposits. She is accused of stealing more than $50,000 from the United band boosters bank account while serving as treasurer from July 2019 to December 2022. That money was raised by 134 students for a benefit trip to Disney World.
And 35-year-old Jacquiline Caylor of Indiana pled guilty to felony charges of theft by unlawful taking and forgery that date back to December 8 when she was accused of writing several checks in her name without the victim’s permission between June 10 and October 4. The checks belonged to an elderly Graceton woman, whom was under Caylor’s care at the time, and had not granted her permission to write them.
District Attorney Robert Manzi said pre-sentence reports were ordered for both defendants. Caylor will go for sentencing October 25, while Brown will have her hearing on December 27.
