State System of Higher Education Chancellor Dan Greenstein has informed the Board of Governors that he will step down in October.
In an open letter on his blog, Greenstein said he plans on pursuing a national opportunity in higher education. While he didn’t go into detail what that role would be, he did say that students across the nation are “in danger of being left further behind,” which is why he took the opportunity to work at the national level seriously.
Greenstein has served as chancellor since September 2018 and helped lead the state system redesign effort, which resulted in improved financial stability for the system, increased new-student enrollment, restored legislative relationships, and increased state investment.
The Board of Governors will conduct a national search for his replacement, and an interim chancellor will be appointed following his last day on October 11th.
