The Pirates found just enough offense yesterday against a Braves pitching staff that had shut them down Friday and Saturday. Joe Block recaps the Buccos’ win.
Manager Derek Shelton says Bailey Falter was tough in humid Atlanta, where the temperature for the 11:35 AM gametime was 86 degrees.
Shelton says the 5th inning offense was a relief.
The Bucs’ skipper says the Pirates were gritty and resilient.
A little over halfway through the season, the Pirates are 40-43 and have a chance to stay in contention for the playoffs after a 14-12 month of June. On The Ben Cherington Show on WCCS yesterday, the Pirates GM said getting to the postseason will most likely depend on the players already on the roster more than on finding other players on the trade market.
Cherington says it won’t be easy, but they can get there.
He says there is plenty of room for improvement from the players already on the roster.
The Pirates have activated catcher Joey Bart for the injured list and optioned Jason Delay to Indianapolis. Bart was 0-for-4 on Sunday.
