At their meeting this morning, Indiana County Commissioners approved allocating a portion of American Rescue Plan Funding towards West Mahoning Township for the construction of a new township building.
The former municipal building was razed by a fire in 2021, leaving staff members to make a temporary office out of the former cheese factory. The expected cost of a new municipal building came out to $1,316,653 and a shortfall of $30,000 was created after the township combined money from state grants, Senator Joe Pittman, Representative Brian Smith and leftover funding from the township. Chairman Mike Keith said the ARP funding will take care of the remaining cost.
In other business, Commissioners awarded a paving contract of $28,035.39 to Site Pro Services, LLC., in Indiana for the replacement of the existing sidewalk along 8th Street in front of the county courthouse. It was also announced Jessica Walker will take over for Al Lockard as the Director of Veterans’ Affairs following his retirement July 26.
Commissioners also reminded residents that the courthouse will be closed Friday, June 14 for Flag Day.
