Coach Steve Kline and the IUP baseball team are gearing up for their weekend at the NCAA Division II College World Series in Cary, North Carolina.
IUP became one of the eight teams at the tournament after knocking off Seton Hill during last weekend’s Super Regional where they lost in game one but came back to win the final two games at Owen Dougherty Field.
After winning the Super Regional last weekend, Kline told Jack Benedict that his team is grateful for the opportunity, but they will not lose sight of winning the National Championship.
Kline, a Lewisburg native, said IUP is building something special, which is something he and Athletic Director Todd Garzarelli wanted to do when Kline was first hired.
In his article titled “8 for Cary,” NCAA.com’s Wayne Cavadi called IUP quote, “the best story in DII baseball this year,” citing the Crimson Hawks setting a new school record with 38 wins on route to their first trip to the national championship.
Joining IUP is their first opponent, Point Loma from San Diego; Catawba, Central Missouri, UIndy, Southern New Hampshire, Tampa, and defending champion Angelo State. The winner of IUP and Point Loma will meet up with the winner of Central Missouri and Angelo State in round two. The losers from those games will face each other. Both of those games will be Monday at 1:30 and 6 p.m.
IUP meets with Point Loma tomorrow at 1:30 p.m.
