Jared Jones was roughed up in game one of yesterday’s doubleheader at Comerica Park in Detroit, but Paul Skenes boasted another quality outing in the nightcap to help the Pirates earn a split with the Tigers.
Joe Block has the recap. (8-0 Detroit in game one. 10-2 Pittsburgh in game two.)
Manager Derek Shelton said game one was a learning curve for Jones.
Shelton applauded Skenes for turning in another solid outing.
Skenes, who celebrated his 22nd birthday yesterday, said early run support helped him get into a rhythm early on.
Catcher Grant Koch made his MLB debut in game two of yesterday’s doubleheader and garnered a walk.
Skenes credited Koch for his stellar outing.
The Pirates yesterday recalled RHP Daulton Jefferies from Triple-A Indianapolis as the team’s 27th player for the doubleheader. He did not appear in either game.
The Pirates have today off and will open a three-game weekend series in Toronto tomorrow night.
