BASEBALL
With rain in the forecast, there is plenty of uncertainty over whether or not the District 6 baseball and softball playoffs can go on today, but as of now, we are planning to carry this afternoon’s Homer-Center baseball game against Northern Cambria on Renda Digital TV (3:45 airtime). That’s one of two Double-A games today involving Heritage Conference schools. United visits West Branch in the other. Yesterday, Cambria Heights lost to top seed Bald Eagle, 5-1. Mount Union trimmed Richland, 1-0.
In Class A, Penns Manor was beaten by top seed Bishop Carroll, 16-2. Portage topped Saint Joseph’s Academy, 6-1.
In Triple-A, River Valley will play at Central Cambria.
WPIAL
Indiana will play Blackhawk Monday at 7 PM at North Allegheny High School.
Congratulations to Indiana junior pitcher Greg Minnick, who has announced that he will play his college baseball for division One Texas Tech. The 6-2 righthander has topped out at 95 miles per hour with his fastball this season. He’s 2-0 with a 1.99 ERA in six games and struck out 12 on Wednesday night in Indiana’s playoff win over Central Valley.
Among others, Minnick also has offers from Pitt, Penn State, Ohio State, Virginia Tech, and Cincinnati.
SOFTBALL
Penns Manor shut out Purchase Line, 9-0 yesterday in a play-in game and will play Claysburg-Kimmel on Monday. The Comets had only one hit but Purchase Line committed five errors and gave up 10 walks.
Portage beat Williamsburg, 5-4 and will play at Conemaugh Valley on Monday.
GIRLS LACROSSE
South Fayette downed Indiana, 12-8.
