The Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry announced that the statewide unemployment rate remained unchanged in the month of April.
The Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry announced that the unemployment rate in April was at 3.4 percent, marking the seventh consecutive month that the rate remains at this level. By comparison, the national unemployment rate went up a tenth of a percentage point from March to April to 3.9 percent.
The statewide civilian labor force, which is the number of residents working or looking for work, was up 17,000 over the month, due to growth in resident employment. The total number of non-farm jobs went up 2600 over the month to a record high of 6,149,500. Jobs increased in six of the eleven industry super-sectors with the largest movement seen in education and health services, which went up 4,000.
The Indiana County unemployment rate is expected to be released later this month.
