IUP broke open a 2-2 game with 6 runs in the 6th inning and 7 in the 7th as they hammered Charleston, 19-7, yesterday in the first round of the NCAA Division II Atlantic Region Baseball Tournament.
IUP batters drew 12 walks and took advantage of 7 Charleston errors to score 12 unearned runs. Ricardo Aponte was 3-for-4 with two walks and four RBIs. Harrison Pontoli had two hits and drove in three runs.
Mark Edeburn gave up two runs on five hits over six innings to earn the win.
IUP’s second round game will be this afternoon against top seed West Chester.
