While rumors were reported on social media of a stabbing, officials with the Indiana Area Collaborative Team say that things were relatively calm for Friday night of IUPatty’s weekend.
First responders were busy, but there were no large, unruly gatherings reported. There was a a spike in traffic on the social media platform YikYak about a reported stabbing in the area. This prompted a response from IUP’s Police Chief Timothy Stringer to release his own statement on social media, saying the reports were fake, but encouraging people to call 911 if something was wrong.
Indiana borough police said gatherings started around 3:00 PM on Friday, with 72 calls for service reported between 7 AM and 7 PM. There was also an influx of traffic reported around the Philadelphia Street, South 7th and Wayne Avenue corridors.
IUPatty’s details will continue tonight.
