Marion Center made the long bus trip to Milton worthwhile, dismantling the Montrose Meteors last night in the second round of the PIAA Girls AA playoffs. Todd Marino has the story.(46-22 win)
Stingers coach Amy Trimble says that playing with a big lead is sometimes difficult, but despite some ragged play, her girls kept the pressure up and she was able to empty her bench for the second straight game.
Trimble says despite the fast start, her team wasn’t as sharp as they have been in recent games, but they still settled in and worked hard.
Marion Center will play Marian Catholic, a 55-54 winner over Northern Lehigh in a back-and-forth affair last night. The Lady Colts were only 5-of-17 from beyond the arc but 5-11 senior Carly Minchoff had all five of their three-pointers and scored 29 points.

In Girls 5A tonight at Gateway High School, Indiana gets a second chance against McKeesport, the team they lost to, 50-41, in the WPIAL playoffs.
In that quarterfinal game Indiana was led by Bella Antonacci’s 22 points but they struggled to stop Tigers star Rachel Manfredo, who scored 16 in a balanced attack, with great help from Brooke Evans (14) and Maddie Cherepko (11).
Indiana coach Michael Franciscus says they can’t afford to let McKeesport make big runs against them.
After losing that game, Indiana lost to Trinity in the consolation round but rebounded to earn the seventh WPIAL slot in the state tournament with a win over North Hills. They then beat York Suburban, 33-32, in the first round of the states.
McKeesport lost to eventual WPIAL champion South Fayette in the semifinals, then beat Oakland Catholic in the consolation round. They crushed West York Area, 61-32, in the first round of the state tournament.
Tonight’s game airs at 6:30 on WDAD and WDADRadio.com, with tipoff at 7.
Also tonight, West Shamokin battles Redbank in Boys AA, and the Wolves get to play within their own district, at Armstrong High School. It’s a short trip for their opponent, too, as Redbank is just a twenty-mile hop away on Route 66.
West Shamokin lost to Northern Cambria in the District 6 semis but knocked off Claysburg-Kimmel, 73-58, in the consolation round. They then trimmed Cambridge Springs, fighting off adversity on the road for an impressive 48-46 victory in the first round of the state tournament.
Redbank won the District 9 championship, then got by Northgate, 66-62, in the first round of the state tournament.
They’ll tip off that game at 7 tonight.
