HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL
The Marion Center girls and the West Branch boys won District 6 Double-A championships last night at Mount Aloysius College.
Todd Marino recaps a great night of high school hoops. (MC beats Portage 58-44 for the girls title, West Branch defeats Northern Cambria, 58-38.)
Marion Center coach Amy Trimble, who played on the school’s back-to-back District 6 champions in 2010 and 2011, says this year’s team is a very special group of girls.
Trimble says everyone contributes for the Stingers.
In other District 6 play last night, West Shamokin’s boys used a 19-0 run in the first half to pull away from Claysburg-Kimmel, 73-58. The Wolves finish third in District 6 moving into the state tournament next Saturday. Braydn Rodgers scored 31 points and Alex Talmadge 25 and they both hit four three-pointers.

The Indiana girls were in action last night with a chance to grab the final 5A WPIAL spot in the state tournament…and they did it. Mark Bertig has the story.(Indiana 35, North Hills 28)
PIHL HOCKEY
North Catholic stopped Blackhawk, 5-3 last night to win their PIHL Class A Gold Division play-in game. They earned the right to play Indiana at the S&T Bank Arena on Tuesday. The Trojans have been a tough matchup for Indiana this season, beating them twice, 4-3 in overtime, and 4-0.
