Officials with UPMC have announced that the mask mandate that was implemented at all facilities, including the Hillman Cancer Center in Indiana, will end Thursday.
The mandate went into effect December 20 following a surge in several ailments, including COVID-19, flu and RSV, and officials said they put the mandate in place to protect the health and safety of UPMC employees, patients and visitors.
The mandate did not extend to the Indiana Regional Medical Center.
In its latest report, the state Department of Health reported decreases in flu, RSV and COVID-19 from the week before, but COVID-related emergency room visits are still high.
