Indiana Regional Medical Center has marked the 500th successful joint replacement surgery that was performed by the hospital’s MAKO SmartRobotics system.
The milestone surgery came close to three years after the MAKO system came in March of 2021. The advancement in joint replacement surgery has transformed the way total knee, partial knee and total hip replacement operations are performed at the facility. IRMC President and CEO Steve Wolf said that the MAKO system was just a part of providing the best surgical services in the region.
The technology allows surgeons to create personalized surgical plans for each patient, optimizes the proceedure’s success with potential for patients to experience less discomfort or need for medicine and inpatient physical therapy and a reduction in the length of their stay in the hospital.
