Double-A boys were the feature of the night for the area’s District 6 playoff basketball last night.
Half of the bracket was all Heritage Conference, including number seven Homer-Center visiting second-seeded Northern Cambria. Todd Marino has the recap. (Northern Cambria 69 Homer-Center 57)
In the other game on the bottom half of the quarterfinal bracket, it was a backyard rivalry game, as Marion Center took on the homestanding West Shamokin Wolves. Jake Slebodnick was there. (West Shamokin 54 Marion Center 43.)
Northern Cambria and West Shamokin will play in the semis on Saturday at Northern Cambria.
Fifth-seeded United was on the road at number four Claysburg Kimmel, and the Lions rained down three-pointers on the Bulldogs, hitting five of them in the first quarter to take a 17-14 lead, but Claysburg Kimmel had a big third quarter, outscoring United 19-9 and clipping the Lions 57-51. Isaac Worthington scored 21 points for United, nailing six three-pointers, and Carter Payne added 10. United hit eleven threes in the game. For Claysburg-Kimmel, Brayden Heney had 21. The Bulldogs will play top seed West Branch, a 93-64 winner over Southern Huntingdon, in the semis.
TONIGHT
There’s a lot of District 6 action tonight, and there will be three games on our Renda Media stations.
On WCCS, it’s a girls Double-A matchup between two Heritage Conference rivals, with number ten Homer-Center traveling to Portage.
On 92.5 FM U92 and on Renda Digital TV, the third seeded Penns Manor’s girls welcome number six Bellwood Antis.
And on Cat Country 106.3 FM, Triple-A number three River Valley will host number six Central (Martinsburg).
It’s a 6:40 airtime for all three games.
