The District 6 playoffs began last night with a Double-A matchup of two Heritage Conference girls opponents, and 10th-seeded Homer-Center pulled off the upset over number 7 United. Todd Marino has the recap. (58-38 HC as Alaina Fabin scored 29 points.)
Coach Nick Moore was proud of his girls for winning in a tough gym.
In the other double-A game last night, 8th seed West Branch downed Mo Valley, 35-29.
In Class A, Bishop Guilfoyle’s girls led 31-0 after the first quarter and went on to beat Purchase Line, 69-14.
There are just two Heritage Conference teams involved in the D6 playoffs tonight. In boys Class A, top seed Conemaugh Valley plays number 8 Ferndale and 4th seed Portage will take on number 5 Bishop Carroll.
In the WPIAL playoffs, Section 1 5A winner Indiana, the number 7 seed, will tangle with number 10 Moon Area tonight. Indiana is 17-5 and was undefeated at home in the regular season, and for the first time, they will host a playoff game at 5th Street Gym, where extra seating will lift the gym to the 1,000-seat capacity needed to qualify it for use in a playoff game.
Bella Antonacci leads Indiana into the game. She’s averaging 15.3 points per game. Moon is 14-8 and led by sophomore Jaedin Griggs, who scores 18 points per game.
Indiana coach Michael Franciscus says it will be a matter of fundamentals and effort for his team.
