On Thursday night, the Homer Center School Board was presented with the data concerning student growth at the elementary and high school levels, and the district has earned top marks in both levels.
At the Junior-Senior High Level, Homer-Center ranked first in the county in 7th and 8th grade PSSA achievement and growth and were in the top 10% PSSA growth scores in reading, math and science. For the Keystone exams, Homer-Center ranked 2nd in the county in achievement and growth, while ranking in the top 14% in the state in algebra growth scores.
One area of concern though was the elementary grade levels, and while some areas are not where they want to be, improvement is being seen across the board there. Superintendent Ralph Cecere, Jr. said that the improvement in the elementary levels was very encouraging.
In other business, the board approved the contract for Matthew Wilson as the facilities supervisor, and approved the ARIN IU 28 budget. The district’s contribution will be $27,643, which is a $35 increase from last year.
