28-year-old Kailum Jamal Miller was charged with 17 felony counts of arson and related crimes, causing or risking a catastrophe, and criminal mischief along with misdemeanor counts of arson and related offenses and reckless endangerment for the fire that called crews out at 11:55 last night to the apartment complex at 310 Maple Street. Indiana, Homer City, Coral Graceton, Creekside and Cherryhill Township firefighters were called out at the time. The fire started in Apartment F, where Miller lived alone. State troopers and Indiana Borough Police were able to find Miller later and troopers determined that he lit a mattress and a coat on fire with a small lighter, then left the apartment and fled on foot.
Three people were displaced because of the fire. They are being assisted by the American Red Cross. The other families were able to return to their apartments.
Miller was arraigned by District Judge Susanne Steffee and placed in Indiana County Jail in lieu of $100,000 bail. A preliminary hearing is set for February 27th at 11 AM.
