On Tuesday night, the River Valley School Board got an update on the investigation where the school was the victim of a wire fraud scheme.
In November, the board was notified that the school was scammed out of over $730,000 after the scammer broke into an outside network of a district vendor and disguised the theft as a regular payment to the company. District Solicitor Ryan Cribbs announced last night that through the investigation, the district has recovered some of the money.
With the insurance money, the district expects to be made whole, but Cribbs said they will continue to aid investigators so they can find the person responsible.
On a related note, the board hired the lawfirm of Houston Harbaugh as outside counsel for the district relative to the investigation.
The board also approved the 2024-25 calendar, with the district returning to early dismissals on Fridays. The reason for the early dismissals is to give teachers additional in-service time.
