A longtime Indiana performer and volunteer with many different organizations has passed away.
Patricia Gaines-Holmes passed away recently. Born in Chicago, she later moved to Indiana and became a community staple, volunteering her time in many organizations. One of them was the Chevy Chase Community Center, where she served as a board member.
Fellow board member Arlene Wanatosky with the Community Center talked about how much she meant to the organization.
Holmes was also involved in the Indiana County NAACP. Dr. Carolyn Princes called Holmes not only a wonderful colleage, but a friend and a mentor.
On top of her volunteer work, Patty was a performer with the Indiana Players, the Sweet Adelines barbershop chorus, and was a singer in her church and with the group Grist for the Mill.
Anthony Frazier of WCCS’s Acoustic Hour talked about her musical prowess.
Funeral details have not yet been released. She passed away at the age of 77.
