Penguins coach Mike Sullivan will have to plug in his power play tomorrow without having the chance to work on it in practice. The NHL is in the final day of a three-day league-wide stoppage in which teams are not allowed to practice or travel. The Pens’ power play was just 1-for-8 Saturday in a loss to Ottawa and failed to score on an extended 5-on-3 early in the game.
Sullivan said after the game that they just couldn’t find the switch on the power play.
The Pens will be in New York to play the Islanders tomorrow night.
Three Penguins prospects have been selected to play in the International Ice Hockey Federation World Junior Championship tournament, which starts today and runs through January 5th in Gothenburg, Sweden. Forward Brayden Yager will play for Canada and defensemen Emil Pieniniemi, and Kalle Kangas will skate for Finland.
Yager was the Pens’ number one draft choice this year, Pieniniemi was chosen in the third round, and Kangas was taken in the seventh round.
