A family was displaced due to a house fire in Loyalhanna Township near the Indiana County border yesterday.
The fire was first reported at 1:50 PM for a home on Stewart Avenue. Saltsburg, Iselin and Tunnelton fire departments from Indiana County joined crews from Bell Township, New Alexandria, Sardis, Slickville and Washington Township in Westmoreland County in fighting the fire. While it was knocked down within the first ten minutes, the fire had spread to behind the walls of the building, and that kept fire crews on the scene for about two and a half hours. No word on the exact cause of the fire, but officials say that it started in the living room of the house. The home and its contents were destroyed in the flames.
The American Red Cross is assisting the family. There were no reported injuries in the fire.
