Indiana County’s District Attorney has issued a statement related to the sentencing of a woman on charges connected with a drug overdose death in October of 2022.
Yesterday, Indiana County President Judge Thomas Bianco sentenced 40-year-old Heidi Jo Milar to serve three to six years in prison for guilty pleas to charges of voluntary manslaughter and possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver. In his statement, DA Robert Manzi said that this type of investigation is difficult not just for the victims, but for the investigators, with very few eyewitnesses and sometimes relying on cell phones to provide evidence.
He complimented the work of the Indiana Borough Police Department and county corner Jerry Overman, Jr. for their work. Because of that, Manzi said, “We are able to hold a drug dealer accountable for her actions and put her in state prison.” He added that he hopes her sentencing sends a message to drug dealers that they are not welcome in Indiana County.
