At Thursday night’s meeting, the Homer-Center School Board addressed some concerns about job and program security.
Representatives from the group Hope for Homer said that they recently met with the district’s teacher’s union to find out why teachers were leaving the district. The two main reasons were finding better jobs and the stability of the Homer City Generating Station. Board president Michael Bertig said that he wanted to set the record straight and that there are no plans to make any cuts.
In other business, Superintendent Ralph Cecere gave some preliminary results from the statewide assessments, saying that both the elementary school and high school were in the 80s for their assessments. Cecere said that those scores were very high and it shows how well the students and teachers are doing.
Finally, it was the final meeting for James McLoughlin, who is stepping down after serving one and a half years on the board in this stint and 18-and-a-half years on the board overall. He decided not to run for reelection this year.
