On Tuesday night, the River Valley School Board authorized the solicitor’s office to seek qualified outside special counsel in connection with an investigation into a wire fraud incident in October of 2023.
According to district solicitor Ryan Cribbs, an outside network of one of the district’s vendors was breached and used to make a fraudulent wire transfer of $736,126.91, which was made to look like a routine payment from the district to the vendor. Cribbs said that federal authorities are investigating the incident.
The district administration remains in close contact with the investigation and will share more information when it can be released.
In other business, board president Rick Harper said that at the recent buildings and grounds committee meeting that the bids for the field house and concession stand for the new stadium came in at double what was budgeted for the project. Harper said that they will look at other alternatives for those buildings and said that he has already made a few suggestions.
The board also took a first look at a revised policy concerning school board members serving in volunteer positions. Board members would not be allowed to be volunteer coaches or advisors but would be allowed to serve as chaperones at dances and on field trips and other capacities that are not directly coaching or advising students. It will be up for final approval at a future meeting.
