UPDATE: Fire crews from Indiana and Westmoreland County were on the scene of a fire at a market in Loyalhanna Township last night.
Indiana County 911 initially reported the call on Route 981 in Young Township, but Saltsburg fire chief Justin Johnson said that the call actually went to the intersection of 981 and Tunnelton Road at Marshall’s Market in Westmoreland County. He said that flames were visible through the roof of the market when they arrived. Along with Saltsburg, Iselin-West Lebanon, Tunnelton, Saltsburg and Blairsville fire departments from Indiana County and Bell Township, New Alexandria and Slickville fire departments from Westmoreland County were on the scene, with several others providing tanker assists.
No one was in the market at the time, but there was an occupied apartment in the rear of the structure. Those people were able to get out safely and are being assisted by the Red Cross. No injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire remains unknown. State Police Fire Marshals are investigating to find the cause of the fire.
WHAT WE FIRST REPORTED
Multiple fire departments were called out last night for a reported structure fire.
The call first came in at 10:26 PM for a property along Route 981 in Young Township. Iselin-West Lebanon, Tunnelton, Saltsburg and Blairsville fire departments were initially dispatched, with Coal Run-McIntyre fire department called in about 10 minutes later to provide assistance. Black Lick Fire Department was called in at 10:45 PM for standby detail. Scanner reports said that part of Route 981 was shut down near the scene.
