Pennsylvania State Police are investigating an officer-involved shooting that happened Sunday evening near IUP.
Troopers say an officer with IUP’s Department of Public Safety and University Police was dispatched around 9:38 p.m. for a suspected robbery near the parking lot of George P. Miller Stadium. The suspect, who was not named, allegedly brandished a knife during an encounter and, subsequently, the officer fired a shot from their gun.
No one was struck by the bullet and the suspect fled on foot after the shot was fired. A chase ensued and the suspect was apprehended by state police with the help of taser deployment. Assisting troopers in the chase were members of the IUP and Indiana Borough Police departments and the Indiana County District Attorney’s Office.
Police say there are no additional suspects and there is no threat to the public or IUP community. With it being an officer-involved shooting, state police are continuing to investigate.
