With three straight losses entering tonight’s game against undefeated Colorado, the Penguins are certainly not the favorites with the odds-makers. But there is plenty of intrigue with the matchup tonight of Penguins superstar Sidney Crosby and his fellow native of Cole Harbor, Nova Scotia, Avalanche superstar Nathan MacKinnon.
The Avalanche are 6-0 and flying high after a 7-4 win over the Islanders in New York on Tuesday. The Penguins have been trudging through a 2-4 start and lost on home ice on Tuesday, 4-1 to the Dallas Stars.
The Penguins say defenseman Jon Ludvig is out indefinitely with a concussion suffered in a violent mid-ice collision on Tuesday night. And backup goaltender Alex Nedelkovic was also injured in the game, although he was able to complete it. He took the ice for practice yesterday but left shortly afterward, with coach Mike Sullivan saying he needs further evaluation for the undisclosed ailment.
The Pens recalled goaltender Magnus Hellberg from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. They also made a salary cap paper transaction, sending Radim Zohorna to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton and calling up forward Corey Andonovski, but those two will likely be flipped today and Zohorna will be available for the Pens tonight.
Faceoff tonight is at seven o’clock. Pregame begins at six on 92.5 FM, U92.
