Steelers coach Mike Tomlin liked the grit showed by his team Sunday in Los Angeles, where a big fourth quarter led to a 24-17 win over the Rams. Tomlin says the win was a prime example of Steelers stars making big plays to influence the outcome of a game.
The coach held his tongue as much as he could when discussing one of the more troubling aspects of the win over the Rams…the penalties. The Steelers were flagged eleven times, with eight of them accepted by the Rams. And two of the violations were taunting penalties, by wide receivers George Pickens and Diontae Johnson.
Tomlin says the Steelers need to pay heed to the approach the officials are taking to a game.
The Steelers will begin practice today for Sunday afternoon’s game against the 5-2 Jacksonville Jaguars.
Tomlin says it’s a good measuring stick game for his team.
The injury news included an update on inside linebacker Cole Holcomb, who sprained an ankle on Sunday. Tomlin says Holcomb may be limited in practice. He said running back Anthony McFarland will be back to work as he continues to come back from a training camp knee injury. There was no update on defensive lineman Cam Heyward, who has been out since injuring his groin in Week One.
The Steelers signed tight end Scotty Washington and inside linebacker Caleb Johnson to the practice squad and released tight end Noah Gindorff and offensive lineman Obinna Eze.
