The County Commissioners Association of Pennsylvania has announced that they are against the recent actions by the PA House and Senate to move next spring’s primary election to an earlier date.
In its statement, CCAP has said that there is no longer enough time for Pennsylvania’s Counties to handle the tasks associated with preparing for the election if it was moved from its current date, which is April 23rd. The senate has proposed moving it to March 19th in a bill that was approved on September 20th, but the PA House has approved its own bill to move it to April 2nd.
Indiana County Commissioner Mike Keith agrees with CCAP’s sentiment, saying that moving the date up would mean a lot of work for the county and not a lot of time to complete it.
Senate Majoirty Leader Joe Pittman on Friday released a letter he sent to his state house counterpart asking for quick action in the house to move it to March 19th or close discussion on it altogether. We reached out to the senator for his response and have not heard from him yet.
