The Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources has released its week three report for the fall foliage season, and our area is just about ready to show it’s best colors.
DCNR says that most of the northern half of the state has reached its “best color phase”, with the exception of a handful of counties that are already starting to fade. For Southwestern Pennsylvania, including Indiana County, and most of the counties in the middle of the state, the classification is “approaching best color”. While counties in the south and southeast regions are starting to change.
The report says that “any country road through the Laurel Highlands offers a chance to enjoy the beautiful hillsides.” Recent cold temperatures have stimulated the color changes, and with more seasonable temperatures in the forecast, the fall color transition should follow a steady trend.
