After his extradition from Georgia and a subsequent arraignment on Thursday, a preliminary hearing for Michael Aaron Whitfield has been scheduled for 9:30 AM on October 11th before District Judge Robert Steele Bell.
The 36-year-old Whitfield, who is from Greensburg, is charged with attempted homicide, felony attempted kidnapping to inflict terror or injury, attempted kidnapping of a minor, two counts of aggravated assault, two counts of robbery, and misdemeanor terroristic threats and two counts of reckless endangerment.
Whitfield’s accused carjacking a woman in Blairsville on July 12th, cutting her face and slitting her neck with a box knife. He escaped in the woman’s SUV with her 9-year-old granddaughter inside, but the girl jumped from the moving vehicle. He fled the scene and was caught in Georgia the next day.
Judge Guy Haberl ordered Whitfield held at the Indiana County Jail without the possibility of bail, noting he is a flight risk.
