The United Lions placed four out of the top five in both the boys’ and the girls’ varsity races of the United Cross Country Invitational Saturday to sweep the event with first-place team point totals of 17 and 23, respectively. The invitational also included Purchase Line, River Valley and Johnstown Christian High School.
In the boys’ event, United runners Colton Henning, Matthew Beaver, Dallas Pearce and Luke Shepler finished first, second, third and fifth, respectively. Henning, a junior, crossed the finish line at 18:17.60. Beaver, a sophomore, finished more than a minute behind his teammate at 19:32.30. Pearce, a junior, came in at 20:38.00 and Shepler, only a freshman, finished at 21:51.40. Purchase Line sophomore Jacob Kauffman broke into the top five with a fourth-place run of 21:32.30.

In the girls’ event, freshman Olivia Henning (21:52.0), sophomore Chloe Stiles (22:23.00), sophomore Sara Gornick (22:39.00) and senior Paiton Steiner (24:35.00), all of United, captured the top four places. River Valley junior Callie Reaugh broke into the top five with a time of 24:47.00.

United took first place in the team scoring of the middle school race with 20 points, followed by Bedford (47) and Johnstown Christian (72). The race also included Purchase Line and River Valley runners.
