A man who was found guilty of sexually assaulting a minor in 2012 is due back in Indiana County Court this morning for a status conference.
Court documents show that the conference is for Woodrow Hicks, Jr. of Indiana, who is serving time in SCI Houtzdale. He was convicted in 2014 for trying to meet a 15-year-old girl for sex. He was found guilty of attempted statutory sexual assault and corruption of minors among other crimes. Hicks appealed the conviction and was turned down by the Superior Court. He then appealed his sentence of an aggregate 16 months to five years, plus five years of probation and lifetime registration as a sex offender. He is imprisoned now for a probation violation.
In April, State Superior Court remanded the case to Indiana County’s Court of Common Pleas. The higher court ruling stated that the case’s “convoluted procedural history…features numerous missteps and misunderstandings” of the law by both the defendant’s appointed attorneys and the court in denying a sentencing appeal.
Last month, the court also scheduled a hearing on an application for an order mandating that court records be furnished.
