On Thursday night, the United School Board held a special meeting and while many of the motions were considered “housekeeping” items, there were two motions that directly affected the makeup of the board.
One of those was to accept with regret the resignation of board member Donald Bowers, who is stepping down for personal reasons to focus on his career and his family. Board president Eric Matava said that they will miss his insight on the board.
To take his place, the board approved naming Wayne Waugh as interim board member. He will fill out the rest of the year on the board and is on the ballot for election in the fall. Waugh is on the November ballot for school board, and he would have been running in Bowers’ district.
