UPDATE:
Officials with Sheetz said in another statement the reason for closing the Wayne Avenue location was because “it was not meeting expectations.” View the full statement below:
“We are continually evaluating our strategies in every market where we operate. After a great deal of consideration, Sheetz decided to close this location because it was not meeting expectations.”
Sheetz has announced that one of its locations in Indiana is closing.
The store commonly called “Sheetz on the Point” at the intersection of Wayne Avenue and South Seventh Street is expected to close in late July, according to a statement from Sheetz Public Relations Manager Nick Ruffner. He added that all the employees at that location have been offered other jobs at other nearby Sheetz locations.
The Sheetz on the Point was the third in a series of café concept stores. The others were in State College and in Morgantown, WV. It opened in August of 2016 after a remodel of the existing Sheetz that was significantly smaller than other nearby locations. These stores did not offer gas pumps and were focused more on sales of convenience items and MTO food.
In the statement from Ruffner, Sheetz thanked its loyal customers, and said they look forward to serving them at other locations. There are two other locations in Indiana: one at the intersection of Ben Franklin Road and Warren Road, and the other at 4th and Philadelphia Streets.
