State police have charged a Homer City woman in connection with a drug overdose death that dates back to 2021.
Troopers say 27-year-old Sydney Michelle Horel was charged with Drug Delivery Resulting in Death; Manufacture, Delivery or Possession with Intent to Manufacture or Deliver; and Criminal Use of a Communications Facilty for an incident dating back to July 27, 2021.
On that day, members of the Troop A barracks were called to assist EMS personnel with a reported drug overdose at a home along Sycamore Street in Homer City Borough and found the victim, 30-year-old Seth Andrew Smith of Homer City, dead inside. Toxicology reports and an autopsy revealed Smith died of acute intoxication with combined effects of fentanyl and heroin. Troopers also seized two stamp bags containing acetyl fentanyl, fentanyl, heroin, and morphine from the home.
Through an investigation, police determined that Horel allegedly delivered the drugs to Smith.
Horel was arraigned on Wednesday in front of District Judge Susanne Steffee and lodged in Indiana County Jail in lieu of $150,000 cash bail. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for May 30th.
