On Saturday, Diamond Drugs teamed up with the Indiana County Sheriff’s office and the Armstrong-Indiana-Clarion Drug and Alcohol Commission to take in unwanted or expired drugs, and according to organizers, this year’s effort was a successful one.
The AICDAC reported in a Facebook post that the organization had collected 74 pounds of unwanted medication during Saturday’s event. This is part of a national drug takeback day movement to give people a chance to get rid of unwanted, unneeded and expired medicines safely. After the drugs are collected, they are taken to another location to be destroyed.
The reason for the event is to prevent people from getting drugs to abuse out of the medicine cabinet or out of trash bins.
Those who were not able to participate on the day can still submit drugs to the Indiana Borough Police department or the DA’s office at the county courthouse.
