The decline in student enrollment was discussed during the Penns Manor School Board meeting on Wednesday night.
In his report, Superintendent Daren Johnston said that over the last five years, enrollment has gone down by 55 students, and he said that the Pennsylvania Department of Education is predicting further enrollment declines.
As far as teachers go, Johnston said that as teachers retire, they will consider whether to hire a new teacher or leave the position vacant.
In other business, the district approved committing $374,974 of the district’s unassigned fund balance for a future elementary school roof project. The roof still has about five years left on its warranty, and the district feels that they cannot and probably will not receive Plancon funds for the project, so they are setting aside some money now to help pay for the project in the future.
