Six fire departments were called out for a brush fire in a wooded are in eastern Indiana County yesterday.
Commodore fire department was initially called out at 2:34 PM to a fire on Herriman Street in Commodore. Initial reports showed that the brush fire was in a wooded area behind a house. About 20 minutes later, Clymer, Marion Center and Cherry Tree fire departments were dispatched to assist on-scene along with Citizens’ Ambulance, and at 3:16 PM, Cherryhill Township and Hope fire departments were called to the scene. Hope and Plumville fire departments were called in during the incident for standby detail.
Commodore fire officials say that the fire burned two to three acres of land, and started with someone burning garbage. Crews took three hours to contain then extinguish the fire. No injuries were reported.
Two more brush fires were reported in Indiana County Wednesday evening. The first was at 5:26 PM along Spotts Road in Banks Township, with the Glen Campbell Volunteer Fire Company called out. The other was at 8:00 PM along Hamill Road in Pine Township with Pine Township Volunteer Fire Company called out for that incident.
And Indiana Fire Association members were dispatched for a fence fire at 4:55 PM at a property on Twolick Drive in White Township.
