Ji Hwan Bae has made an impact since making the team out of spring training. Manager Derek Shelton says Bae is versatile, playing both in the outfield and infield.
Shelton says Bae’s first Major League home run went perfectly.
Dauri Moreta, Jose Hernandez, Colin Holderman, and David Bednar threw a combined three-and-a third innings, giving up just one hit, with no walks and three strikeouts after Roansy Contreras tossed 5-and-a-third innings.
Shelton says the Pirates’ relievers have thrown well early in the season.

The Pirates yesterday placed catcher Austin Hedges on the 7-day concussion injured list and called up Tyler Heineman to replace him. To make room for Heineman on the roster, they designed for assignment pitcher Edwin Uceta, who they just claimed on Monday off waivers from Detroit.
