Following the recent events in Nashville, and after several lockdowns were reported in nearby counties this morning, school districts across Indiana County are taking extra precautions to ensure the safety of students, faculty, and staff members.
School districts and businesses in Allegheny, Blair, and Cambria counties went into lockdown early this morning after reports of active shooter threats were made; however, no shootings have been reported.
The following Indiana County school districts are taking the following actions:
- Indiana Area School District – Increasing police presence.
- Homer-Center School District – Increasing on-campus police presence. Visitors must also be met at respective building offices by personnel.
- River Valley School District – School security is on “heightened alert.”
- Penns Manor School District – Students are staying indoors.
- United School District – Following emergency operations plan.
- Marion Center School District – Increasing security details.

State police from the Troop A barracks say that no active shooter threats were reported in any Indiana County schools, and Indiana Borough Police Chief Justin Schawl released a statement, which you can read below:
